Goodbye, my Kuya Lowie

It is my Kuya Lowie who gives me a bath when my stink-o-meter goes off...

He is always very gentle and nice with me...

It is my Kuya Lowie who takes me out for my daily  "walks" ...

He plays with me...

He and I have lots of fun together...

Kuya Lowie is one of the Animal Doctor's assistant at the Greenwoods Pet Clinic.

He is part of our family...

Our Secretary/Mom considers it almost like a miracle that caring for a special needs dog like me never feels like a burden in our household.   It is because my human family is so blessed to have people working for them who are compassionate and loving to animals. Kuya Lowie did his job with joy in his heart.

Kuya Lowie passed away suddenly in his sleep at around 2:30 this morning. There was no sign  that we would lose him.  He still played with me before retiring last night.

The humans are still reeling from shock. The Secretary is still vacationing with her family in Iloilo City, the fact of Kuya Lowie's death simply refuses to sink in to her mind.  Our veterinary clinic is closed today; everyone is still trying to come to terms with such a sudden loss. The Animal Doctor is taking care that Kuya Lowie's remains be transported to his family in San Miguel, Iloilo. We have to make sure that he gets a proper burial and  prayers for the repose of his soul.

Much has been said about the grief that humans endure when their beloved pets pass on.  My humans will never know how much my heart bleeds for my Kuya Lowie.

I WILL ALWAYS MISS YOU KUYA LOWIE. IT IS YOU WHO WAITS FOR ME AT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE.~ SCARLET

  3. Oh Scarlet and Ms. Secretary, I'm so sorry to hear about Kuwa Lowie. He looked like such a healthy young man...it's hard to believe he could pass on so suddenly. It must be a terrible shock for you. He certainly loved Scarlet too...I can tell from those pictures. I wonder if Scarlet will understand what happened, poor thing. Anyway, Teddy and I are sending our hugs and condolences to you, your family and staff.

  6. Oh Scarlet that is so sad!
Keeper Lui said she remembers Kuya Lowie when she went to your house before and she remembers some of the people in the picture. Anybody who takes care of animals are Heroes in my book. Please extend our condolences to Kuya Lowie's family...

  8. Oh, dear goodness. Secretary, Doctor, Your family - my heart has just completely broken in two for you. I cannot IMAGINE how utterly devastated you must be feeling. My thoughts on first seeing the pictures (before reading the article) were actually (as I am a young woman, like most other young women) "What a nice, good-natured-looking HANDSOME young man." Clearly one of life's good ones. And then to read that he was called to Heaven so suddenly and without any warning. Oh, no words can describe how awful that is. Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you all at this most terrible time.

For Kuya Lowie himself - perhaps he felt no pain, and he passed whilst surrounded by those he loved and with joy in his young heart - but that is poor comfort to those who are left behind to mourn. I know that no mere words are able to ease your pain - so please know that we are walking silently beside you, keeping you company, ready to quietly hold and steady you as you grieve. God bless you all - and Kuya Lowie too, as he takes his place at the Lord's table in Paradise.

Your friends in grief as well as in happy times,
    Ruth (and Jasper). xxx

Here is a reading I once heard at a funeral in England and which I found to be quite comforting to me. I hope you don’t mind if I share it with you. It is by the late Bishop Brent and is called “What is Dying?”

I am standing on the seashore,
A ship sails and spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
    And starts for the ocean.
She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her till at last she fades on the horizon, and someone at my side says “She is gone”.
    Gone where?
Gone from my sight that is all.
She is just as large in the masts, hull and spurs, as she was when I saw her,
and just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.
The diminished size, the total loss of sight is in me not in her, and just at the moment when someone at my side says “She is gone”
There are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up the glad shout.
    “here she comes!”
    And that is dying.
